1 point · 1 year ago. This can occur if you have an spn configured to your old box on that account. Try: setspn -L domain\accountname. This will list the spn's on that account. If you see the old decommisioned server name on that list, you will want to setspn -D to remove those, restart your sql service and try again.
Take note though, SQL Server only tries to register the correct SPN at service startup. UPDATE: Based on the fact that you said the command above returned no results, I suggest you run a less restrictive query as follows: setspn -q MSSQLSvc/* > SPNList.txt This will list all SPNs that are associated with a SQL Server service (i.e. MSSQLSvc).
